Jay-Z parte como el principal favorito
para los Grammy de 2014 con un total de nueve nominaciones. Su nombre aparece
en todas las categorías de rap, lo que incluye mejor disco por Magna Carta Holy
Grail, mejor canción por Holy Grail y mejor interpretación por Tom Ford. Sus
numerosas colaboraciones con Justin Timberlake han beneficiado a ambos, ya que
el cantante le sigue en número de nominaciones con un total de siete. Al margen
de sus canciones con el rapero, compite en las categorías de pop con Mirrors
como mejor interpretación y The 20/20 Experience – The Complete Experience como mejor disco.
A pesar de tener tantas nominaciones, ni Jay-Z ni Justin se encuentran
en las grandes categorías. Sí que lo hacen Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, que cuentan con siete nominaciones. Además de estar en los apartados de
rap, compiten con Same Love en canción del año, The Heist en disco del año y en artista revelación. El exitoso Pharrell también tiene siete
nominaciones gracias a sus apariciones en Get Lucky y Blurred Lines, haciendo
doblete en grabación del año y mejor interpretación pop de grupo. Tampoco le
ha faltado una mención como productor del año.
La joven Lorde aspira a grandes premios como grabación del año y
canción del año por Royals, así como mejor disco de pop por Pure Heroine. Sin
embargo, no ha sido nominada en la categoría de artista revelación.
Entre las sorpresas de esta edición, está la nominación de The Blessed
Unrest de Sara Bareilles a disco del año y la mención de James Blake como
artista nuevo, ya que publicó su debut en 2011. También cabe
destacar la aparición de Lana Del Rey y su Paradise en mejor disco pop, siendo
esta la primera vez que la tienen en cuenta los Grammy –a pesar de lo sonado de
Born To Die, fue ignorado en la edición pasada-. Taylor Swift y Red, su disco
más pop hasta la fecha, compite en country.
Respecto a las ausencias, no ha habido
suerte para Lady Gaga, la popular Miley Cyrus y ni siquiera Haim, que no han sido ni
mencionadas como grupo revelación aunque Days Are Gone se incluya en varias listas de
lo mejor del año. Por otra parte, aunque las críticas de lo último de Justin
Timberlake y Kanye West los colocaban como posibles competidores en las grandes
categorías, se han tenido que conformar con nominaciones en pop y rap.
Los Grammy se entregarán el 26 de enero en el Staples Centre de Los
Ángeles.
